I purchased a whirlpool 230l refrigerator in the year 2005. It stoped functioning suddenly from 05/07/2010.on that very date i docketed a complain at whirlpool service centre at howrah, phone no. 033-60008558 and was given a complain no.kl0710002125 and was told that their engineer will visit my place in a day to attend to my complain. But there engineer never attended my place on 06/07/2010. On 07/07/2010 i rang up the said service centre for a number of times and was told each time that their engineer will definitely visit on that day but all in vain. Finally after a number of calls at the said service centre on 08/07/2010 their engineer visited our place on the late afternoon of 08/07/2010 and after checking the refrigerator informed us that the compessor is not working. As we could not show him the purchase bill he noted down the number of the machine and rang up their store in front of us ,where they checked the number and informed me that the machine is within warranty period and it will be repaired free of cost by the company and that the machine will be taken by them to the workshop in a day's time. We waited till the afternoon of 10/07/2010 but when no one arrived we again rang up the service centre only to be told that their people will come to take the machine positively on 12/07/2010. But when no one arrived till afternoon of 12/07/2010, i again rang up the service centre where they informed me that since i do not have the bill i need to pay rs.6000 for the repair. Me , a senior citizen , would like to know the following:
1. If someone losses the bill but from the company records it could be found that the machine is within the warranty period, whether or not it is mandatory for the company to repair it free of cost.
2. Why was i initially informed by the company people that my refrigerator is within the warranty period & that it will be repaired free of cost.
3.why the company did not bother to inform me over telephone that a bill is a must for repair in the past days and was only told about the same after 3 days & after a number of calls.
4.i would request the company to immediately fepair my refrigerator free of cost as informed to me by their engineer during his visit to my place on 08/07/2010
