DEDUCTION OF INCOME TAX ON FDR

1. It is to inform you that this Regiment has deposited an amount of Rs 24,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty four lakh only) on 07 Mar 2007 for a period of 30 months at Nasik Branch Receipt No NS/415279.

2. The amount got matured on 07 sep 2009 and maturity amount of Rs 30,17,823/-(Rupees thirty lakh seventeen thousand eight hundred twenty three only) has been renewed again for a period of 35 months at your Delhi Branch. Receipt No DE/2765505 dt 27 Jan 2010.

3. Your office was further informed that Regiment funds of defence units are exempted from tax deduction vide Sec 10(23A A) of income tax act 1961.

4. It is brought out with concern that there was an inordinte delay in renewal of the above said FDR(Delay of 04 months) and also tax was deducted at source amounting to Rs51,430/- (Rupees Fifty one thousand four hundred thirty only) on the FDR contrary to the existing instructions on the subject.

5. This Regiment has approached your office several times and much correspondence has been done for recovery of tax deducted at source, as it is public money and is exempted from tax. But till now no progress has been done by your authorities.

6. You are requested to look into this matter as priority and an early action is required for the refund of deducted tax amount as well as interest on the matured amount for the delay of four months occurred during renewal.
