I am NRI and had my Fixed Deposits worth about 18 lakhs Rupees matured on 3rd June 2009 in Canara bank Bareilly, Civil Lines branch. I visited India in March 2010 and went to the branch and they told me that they did not renew FDs, nor they credited the maturity amount to my NRE account at the time of maturity (3rd June 2009).
They also told me that I will not get any interest on the matured amount for the time lapsed (almost 9 months from June 2009 to March 2010). Moreover they told me that I could get the differential interest for 9 months only if I renew all those FDs.
I renewed 5 out of 9 FDs and got the interest for those 9 moths but 4 FDs (worth about 9 lakhs) I did not renew and they simply creditted the MATURED amount due as on 3rd June 2009 WITHOUT ANY INTEREST for the 9 months from June 2009 to March 2010.
I ran tooth to nail from Canara bank management to the RBI (Delhi) but unfortunately the response from Canara bankis pathetic and NO RESPONSE from RBI except that they forwarded my message to RBI Kanpur anf from RBI Kanpur there is no response at all despite of my regular reminders.
