Sri Lanka applauded its cricket team's Triangular Series triumph by publishing full-page advertisements in local newspapers Thursday.
Leading Sri Lankan mobile companies published these advertisements to congratulate the team for winning the Indian Oil Cup, beating India by 18 runs in the final at the R. Premadasa Stadium here Tuesday.
The full-page Sri Lanka Telecom advertisement, proclaiming "One victory. Many Applauses...", carried photographs of Mahela Jayawardene, who was adjudged Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament and off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.
Other leading dailies were full of praise for the team led by Marvan Atapattu.
A leading mobile service provider, Dialog GSM, also published an advertisement featuring two photos of Sanath Jayasuriya.
The swashbuckling left-hander Jayasuriya, shown playing a stroke in one photograph and talking on a mobile phone in the other, became only the fourth batsman - and the first Sri Lankan - to score 10,000 runs in one-day cricket during the final Tuesday.
"We are proud to be connected to you," the advertisement screamed. "Congratulations Sanath Jayasuriya."
