Three key injured Sri Lankan cricketers - Sanath
Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa - are slowly showing improvement
but are still not fit for the host teams' One Day International encounter
against West Indies Saturday, a Sri Lankan board official said Thursday.

They will undergo fitness tests Friday when the three teams of the
triangular series, that also includes India, have a rest day as was
Thursday.

Sri Lanka have qualified for the Aug 9 final with three wins in as many
matches. Two of the victories have come against India, at Dambulla.

Jayasuriya's participation is doubtful for the rest of the tournament after
he dislocated his right shoulder while fielding against India at Dambulla in
central Sri Lanka Saturday.

But the Sri Lankan cricket board's media manager Michael Tissera said that
the country's highest scorer in Tests as well as one-day internationals was
showing improvement.

"He is progressing well, and he should play in the tournament," Tissera told
from the team bus on its way to Colombo from Dambulla.

"He still has a little bit of pain in his shoulder. It is not decided
whether he would play the next match. We will decide that most probably
tomorrow," said the former Sri Lanka captain.

An MRI done later on Jayasuriya's shoulder did not reveal any alarming
results.

Despite the dislocated shoulder, Jayasuriya, a hard-hitting left-handed
opening batsman, came lower down the order and steered Sri Lanka to victory
with an unbeaten 43.

Left-arm pace spearhead Vaas, who has a hamstring problem on the right side,
has not played any of his country's three matches in the triangular. He will
take a fitness test to see how much he has progressed, if at all.

"He will undergo a fitness test Friday. His playing in the next match is
also yet to be decided," said Tissera.

Zoysa, the burly left-arm pacer, has not appeared in any match in the
tournament as he is suffering from back spasm.

"He will also take a fitness test tomorrow and then we will decide if he
will stay in the squad," said Tissera.

Rookie pacer Pradeep Jayaprakashdaran, who has been drafted in for Zoysa,
made his debut against India at Dambulla Wednesday. He will be retained in
the squad if Zoysa is ruled out of the tournament.

The rest of the matches will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
