Mahela Jayawardene steered Sri Lanka to a four-wicket victory over India in the company of Upul Chandana in the fourth match of the Indian Oil Cup here Wednesday.

With this emphatic win, which seemed unlikely at one point, Sri Lanka booked their place in next Tuesday's final.

Chasing a victory target of 221 runs, the Lankans were staring down the barrel with the score reading 95/6 at one point of time.

Jayawardene (94 not out) and Chandana (44 not out) put on an unbeaten seventh wicket victory stand of 126 runs off just 133 balls to see their team home with two overs to spare.

Ashish Nehra was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking two wickets for 23 runs in his 10-over spell.

India next play West Indies Sunday and the winner of that match will play the hosts in the final.
