A former West Bengal police chief Tuesday filed his papers for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president's post, challenging the nearly decade-old suzerainty of Jagmohan Dalmiya, a former head of the International Cricket Council and the Indian cricket board.

With the entry of Dinesh Bajpai, who claims the support of a sizeable number of affiliated clubs, the CAB elections July 27 have all the makings of a one-day international.

Dalmiya also filed his papers Tuesday for re-election.

Bajpai's associate Samar Pal, who is running for the joint secretary's post, deposited his nomination papers at the CAB office.

The Dalmiya group has nominated Saradindu Pal and Amitava Banerjee for the two joint secretary's posts.

"I'm hoping of a victory as I am being supported by various clubs," Bajpai said.

The retired Indian Police Service officer has alleged that Dalmiya, who has headed the CAB for almost a decade on the trot, had little time for Bengal cricket as he was "too busy" with cricket politics at the national and international levels.
