The new season of the English Premier League will kick off in the second weekend of August with champions Chelsea travelling to newly promoted Wigan Athletic on the first day of the season.

Everton, who were fourth in the standings last season, will host third place holders Manchester United in what could be the game of the weekend at Goodison Park.

Runners-up Arsenal will begin their campaign against Newcastle United in their last year at Highbury. The Emirates stadium, still under construction, will be the new home of the Gunners from the 2006 season.

Newly crowned European champions Liverpool will want to infuse some of the form they displayed in their champions league campaign when they travel to the Riverside Stadium to play Middlesbrough, who finished seventh last season.

Bolton Wanderers, who put on a superb show last season and consequently will have their first shot at the UEFA Cup this year, will travel to Aston Villa.

Coca-Cola Championship winners Sunderland host Charlton Athletic while West Ham United has a home game against Blackburn Rovers.

Fulham open their season at home playing Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion travel to the City of Manchester stadium to play Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will play an away fixture against Portsmouth on the opening day.
