The Indian cricket board's New Area Development Programme (NADP) committee Wednesday proposed under-17 and under-19 cricket tournaments of the northeastern states and union territories in 2006.

The NADP committee meeting was convened by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Gautam Dasgupta. Among those who attended were former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and National Cricket Academy chief Brijesh Patel.

The committee discussed the development of cricket in the northeast region, besides the union territories.

"We have given each member of the committee two places to supervise. They will ensure that the ground conditions, pavilion, practice facilities and equipment are up to the mark," Dasgupta said.

"If everything goes well, we will have an under-17 and under-19 cricket tournament in January-February 2006. But the venue has not been decided."

Patel added a coaching programme will be undertaken along with infrastructure promotion in the regions.

The NADP Committee was formed in 2003 to expand cricket across the country.
