The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Thursday said it was hopeful of getting tax exemption for the 2006 Champion's Trophy proposed to be held here.

Emerging from a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, BCCI president Ranbir Singh Mahendra told reporters he was confident that the issue of getting tax exemption would be sorted out soon.

"The discussion is moving in the right direction," said the BCCI chief, who was accompanied by former cricket board chief Jagmohan Dalmiya.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given the BCCI time until June to secure an assurance on full tax exemption as a precondition to holding the Champion's Trophy in India, failing which it has threatened to relocate the tournament to Pakistan.

Pakistan has already offered to waive tax should the matches be held there.

Mahendra had explained the conditions laid by the ICC to both Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram.
