Almost three weeks after John Wright retired as coach of the Indian cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to form a committee in the next two days to choose his replacement.

"The committee to select the next coach of the Indian cricket team will be set up in the next 48 hours. After that is done, we can have a decision from the committee soon," BCCI president Ranbhir Singh Mahendra told reporters.

Four candidates - Ian Chappell, Dean Jones, Tom Moody and Dav Whatmore - have applied for the post.

While disagreeing that there was a delay in the whole process, Mahendra said that everything would be put in place in time. He also refused to divulge further details on who would be on the committee.

Mahendra was speaking on the sidelines of a press conference with the Indian Olympic Council president Suresh Kalmadi.

Kalmadi told reporters that with the Commonwealth Games Federation lifting the cap of 15 sports for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, efforts were being made to include cricket as one of the disciplines.

The BCCI president said in principle he agreed with the proposal for including cricket, but the final decision would be taken by the board's working committee.
