India's cricket board Sunday formed a three-member panel to study the legal aspects of the contentious issue of telecast rights.
The marketing committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met here to evaluate the technical bids for the telecast rights of the game for the next four years.
"The committee discussed the bids of the four television channels -- Zee Telefilms, ESPN-Star, Sony and Prasar Bharati," BCCI chief Ranbir Singh Mahendra told reporters here.
"Since there are legal points to be clarified, the marketing committee has decided to form a sub-committee," he said.
"The committee, comprising Jagmohan Dalmiya and I.S. Bindra (both former BCCI presidents) and I, will advise the lawyers regarding the bids," Mahendra added.
He said the Delhi High Court would hear Zee's petition Oct 19 and the marketing committee would meet again Oct 20 in Kolkata for a final decision.
The Delhi High Court had on Oct 4 directed the board that a decision on the technical bids for coverage of domestic and international matches from Oct 1, 2005 to Sep 30, 2009 would have to be conveyed to it on Oct 19.
The three-hour marketing committee meeting was not attended by central Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar as he had resigned Friday.
Mahendra confirmed that Pawar had resigned from the marketing committee owing to his other commitments in his official position as a union minister.
However, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association president N. Srinivasan, a Pawar supporter who was included in the committee during BCCI's annual general meeting in Kolkata last month, attended the meeting.
The others who attended included BCCI vice-presidents Kamal Morarka, Rajiv Shukla and Ranga Reddy, board treasurer Jyoti Bajpai and secretary S.K. Nair.
