A journalist with the Lebanese Broadcast Corporation (LBC) was seriously injured Sunday when a bomb exploded in her car, police said.

The blast occurred as May Chidyac, a news presenter at LBC, was getting into her car in Jounieh district north of Beirut, police said.

Hospital officials said Chidyac's right hand and leg were amputated and that she was in a serious condition.

The Lebanese Army has cordoned off the site of the blast.

Chidyac is a Christian and is renowned as an "outspoken journalist".

An eyewitness said Chidyac was having lunch at a friend's house near Jounieh before the blast.

"This is similar to the explosion that killed previous anti-Syrian journalist Samir Kassir few months ago," the eyewitness said.

Lebanese journalists and politicians have been targeted by 12 explosions since the assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri Feb 14.

Kassir was killed in one of the explosions while another killed anti-Syrian politician George Hawi.
