The Supreme Court Monday permitted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to complete the adjourned annual general meeting (AGM) in which new office bearers were elected but could not assume charge since the meeting could not be completed.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices N. Santosh Hegde and S.B. Sinha passed the order on a batch of petitions filed by the BCCI and others challenging a Madras High Court order. The high court had appointed Justice S. Mohan as an interim administrator to the board and restrained new office bearers, including newly elected president Ranbir Singh Mahindra, from taking charge.
The court said the AGM of the board could now consider the appointment of Jagmohan Dalmia as the patron-in-chief of the board as well as consider him for appointment as BCCI representative to the International Cricket Council.
In another order, the bench issued notice to state-owned broadcaster Doordarshan and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on a petition from sports channel ESPN challenging an order of the Kerala High Court that had directed the telecast of the India-Bangladesh cricket matches by the Doordarshan also.
The bench tagged the matter with a pending matter relating to TEN Sports.
