Gujarat Times, the largest Gujarati weekly newspaper in the US, will launch its Canada edition Aug 5 in response to a growing demand among the Gujarati community in that country.

The paper will be launched in Toronto and will be available across Canada.

"The Canada edition is part of our commitment to serve the Gujarati diaspora in North America. We are taking this step after receiving frequent requests from the community there," said Gopal Raju, who started the newspaper in 1999 and who is also the founder of India Abroad.

Unlike other Gujarati publications, Gujarat Times was the first paper to be started by an Indian living in the United States. The paper's content has been designed keeping in mind the specific reading sensibilities of the expatriate Gujarati reader. The paper's primary motivation is to report news about the Gujarati community in and outside India without any bias, Raju stated.

"This is a big step for us as publishers. We hope the Gujaratis residing in
Canada would support us," said Prakash Parekh, the Gujarat Times' publisher.
