I purchased a Nikon Coolpix S8200 digital compact camera from Anandamela, G-9 Gariahat Market, Kolkata 700019 on 28th January 2012. Although the product is new, the protective glass cover over the LCD display contains some scratch marks which are due to some manufacturing defect. Also, dust is getting inside the protective glass cover. A warranty of two years starting from the date of purchase is applicable on the product. I took the product to Anandamela and explained the problems to the sales personnel, but they pleaded helplessness and advised me to visit the regional Nikon service centre, Nikon India Private Limited, PS Plus Building, 1st Floor, 238A, A.J.C. Bose Road, Kolkata 700020. I went there and explained the problems once again, but instead of taking any measures to rectify those, the receptionists behaved rudely and told me the warranty terms do not cover those faults. I pointed out that nowhere in the warranty terms is mentioned that the company shall not be liable for any of its own manufacturing defects. Then they argued that the scratch marks could have been caused by me as well and wanted a definitive proof that the marks are caused due to manufacturing glitch. I told them that the geometry of the marks (which are perfectly straight lines) testifies to the faults being caused during manufacturing process. Then they offered to provide paid service and resolved to solve the issue in exchange for money.
After buying an expensive item, I cannot get cheated like this. Nikon authorities take a note of this.
