Sub: Power cuts on Arc, Induction furnaces & Rolling mills vide Telephonic msg.258/11 dt.21.12.11 for
One day for General Industry and 4 days for Induction Furnaces

Sir,

The above circular has been made effective on all induction furnaces. Unfortunately, ours a small induction furnace with a load of 250 KW and making small castings (not INGOTS), is being subjected to this draconian restriction and severe power cut which is meant for saving power in this time of crisis. Please see how much power the board will save by applying Power Cut on small furnaces, which are just furnaces by name only because of the type of industry.

1. It is important to note that when the connections were given in the year 1995 by virtue of P.R.circular No.43/95, the same was given despite a ban on new connections for induction furnace by devising a category of “beyond 100 KW and upto 500 KW”.(We are enclosing a copy of the above circular for your ready reference).

2. Secondly, in the year 1996 vide P.R.circular No. 26/96, the board had clearly categorised “Induction furnace consumers having a connected load upto 500 KW and using their furnaces for purposes like casting but not for producing ingots” and imposed only “One weekly off day like GENERAL INDUSTRY”.

3. It may also be mentioned that our industry runs only on single shift basis.

4. By applying such a severe power cut on small units upto 500 kW the board will hardly save any power
but will instead kill this tiny industry by imposing power cut designed for units with 2-5 MW of power
of making “ingots” which a very “high power consuming category”.

It is therefore prayed that such a severe power cut be not imposed on these tiny units of upto 500 KW and these units be kindly treated like General Industry for the matter of power cuts and off days as was done in 1996 vide P.R.circular No. 26/96.

Yours faithfully,
