I have recently shifted to Udupi from Bombay and am staying at Santhekatte. Since our house comes under the Muncipal limit, I believe the electricity rates are higher. As per my knowledge the rates in rural (villages) area are very, very low and that is because of agriculture. What I have noticed is, in the name of agriculture the villagers misuse the electricity, I have seen water pumps running continously on from morning to afternoon and evening, their houses are fully lit with incandesant lamps which are constantly on. Apart from this they even share the water with their neighbours for their fields. They enjoy the fruit of cocunut etc., they earn from it, but nothing goes to the electric company or the government. We somehow manage to buy an house in the city but are not spared the high expenses, muncipal taxes are high, electricity rates are high. Why this differences, I dont understand are we not the citizen of India.
