I received the first bill for electricity for my falt in DSK Sunderban, Hadapsar, Pune last month. As it was the first bill, I had no clue of its arrival and hence missed the payment in April. This month the second bill arrived with the last month's bill amount included. The bill dat is in the first week of the month and due date is 23rd May.
Astonishingly, the electricity for 26 flats in our society was disconnected due to non-payment for the first bill, WITHOUT any notice.
I made the payment immediately as I was not aware of the rules and thought it was entirely my fault that I missed the payment. Even after payment no personnel restored the connection and when I called the numbers provided on the mahadiscom.in wesite, they just kept giving me stupid excuses and asked me to visit three different offices. I was totally baffled and decided to ask the security personnel at my residence if they have any identification of the person who disconnected the lines. To my amazement, the security person had a number which he called charged me Rs.50 (as advised by the electrician) and the electricity was restored.
Through all this I had a faint idea that the rules cannot ne so messy, so I went through the mahadiscom.in website againa dn found out this:
- If there is a security deposit paid by the person availing electricity (We have Rs. 2000 paid as security deposit), then the electricity cannot be disconnected. The bill amount can be forfieted from the deposit amount.
- Even if there is no deposit paid the electricity office HAS to provide a 30 day NOTICE before disconnection.
I had to bare the inconvinience for 2 days and even after that I had to pay Rs.50 for someone else's fault. The best part is if you make an online payment they don't have a system where they can check and confirm the payment and restore the connection. Amazing Government rules, why make rules when you can't follow them.
