Dear Sir,

I got my last electricity bill (residential) for Rs. 40 (already paid). I thought it might be some mistake on department's side and the complete bill would be adjusted in next bill cycle. A person from electricity department came today and checked the meter. He told me that it has stopped working (I never check the meter). He called me later in the evening and said that we have not been receiving the bill as per the electricity consumed (meant that we were stealing electricity). I calculated my maximum electricity consumption using BSES calculator and explained that we receive the bill as per consumption. I also have my all previous bills and the consumption is according to the season (more bill amount in summers). He demanded Rs. 30000 and said if we do not pay him, he would file an electricity theft case against us. I know a person in electricity department so i talked to him about it. He tried to convince the other person (who was demanding bribe) to go the right way and according to the procedure, still he was demanding for Rs. 2000.

What are my options here? Kindly suggest.
