Beset by a severe electricity shortage, the Rajasthan government Thursday began two to four power outages through the state.

According to a state energy department official, Jaipur headquarters would face two-hour cuts. It would be three hours for other divisional headquarters and four hours for district headquarters and townships with populations of over 5,000.

A four-hour power restriction from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. has also been imposed on the industrial sector while agricultural supply has been reduced to five hours in each block. Decorative lighting on government buildings has been banned.

Currently, only 80 million units of power are available for the state as against a demand of 98 million units a day.
