I had bought a Tata sky STH in December 2006. Within 15 days of my purchase they halved the prices of STB with a 6 months subscription free for all new subscribers thereafter- First shock for me. The first time installation of the dish was at the roof of a terrace flat, which is beyond our reach (say 6th floor). After about a year I started experiencing a 'No Signal' problem on a frequent basis to which Tata sky would charge an exorbitant amount of INR 350 per visit. The only thing the engineer would do (for round about 10 mins) is align the dish and that too without precision, so that we have to call them again and again. Sometime back, they suggested to change the dish installation to a place more accessible! Wouldn't this be something that the engineer would have done first time and all this while. So all in all I pay the recharge value p.m + a site engineer visit p.m which is far in excess of what a cable operator would charge and that too with free maintenance services. Aren't the DTH providers suppose to be providing a free maintenance services as well? The online help is a complete non-sense( I say this because they ask to check cable and power connections which any layman would do for sure). The call centre execs are at Junior level and they do not know beyond a set 4 step process after which they book us for the engineer. Why do we consumers go in for such buys? These kind of commercial orgs. are simply manipulating the convenience factor that every customer would look forward to. Consumer forum should make such DTH provders more accountable and at par in terms of service provision to that of cable operators.
