I am looking forward to your legal advise on the below matter.

This is to bring to your notice the harrassment that I have faced through HDFC bank. Mentioned is a detailed description of the aggravation I have been facing till date:
I had made a settlement of 24000 INR with the bank against an amount of 62000 INR, after a discussion with HDFC.
I was issued the settlement letter stating an agreement of 24000 INR on 19 March, 2008 by Nishant Sharma (HDFC Employee ID: N0819)
Before issuing this letter, Nishant had proposed that I could pay the entire amount in a maximum of 3 instalments. The first instalment was hence paid on 25 February, 2008, followed the remaining two; 31 March, 2008 and 30 April, 2008.
After making the first payment, a letter of acknowledgement was also given to the bank, stating the receipt number and approval number of my case.
Despite making the desired payments the bank has been harrassing me and family till date for more money since they state that I did not make the payment in one instalment (as stated in the settlement letter issued to me after making the first instalment). When I discussed this discrepancy with the bank, they catagorically stated that they were ok to accept the payment in 3 instalments, as the first had already been made. They were only concerned with the bank getting the 24000 INR - be it through 1 instalment or 3.
My family and I have been getting calls from the bank stating they are lawyers / policemen calling on behalf of the bank, since my payments were not made. We get these calls even till today. Following are the mobile numbers of the folks who have been calling us:

Devinder Choudhary (received the call on behalf of Rajinder Kumar when I called them) - Gave me threats of imprisonment, being picked up from my rented apartment and then being beaten up in the lock-up.

I have visited the HDFC collections office (HDFC B-1 market, Janakpuri, New Delhi) several times, including this morning (May 16, 2009). When I visited them in September, 2008, out of sheer frustration, I also proposed to make a payment of 5000 INR to them and finish the matter; however, they did not revert to my proposal.

This morning, the same gentleman who I met last time, Anoj Lakra, had a conversation with me and was getting very abusive repeatedly. He wanted me to make an additional payment of 15000 INR to close the matter and to stop receiving harrassment calls. He also stated that if I did not make these payments life would be made miserable for my family and me.

Having described my entire stressed episode, I am looking forward to you for some justice on the above. I did what the bank asked me to do; however, did not know that this is the way through which they would trap me into distress. My family and I are not being able to continue a peaceful life as we are always threatened that any time that any of us moves out of the house, we may be abducted and then beaten up on the road / in the police station.
