Exclamation HDFC CC Collection Policy in case of death

    Hello,

This is with respect to an HDFC Credit Card that my father used during his lifetime.
My Father Passed Away on the 10th of July 2008.

He held a HDFC Credit Card and he had also availaed another card in my Mothers name from HDFC as an "ADD-ON" card.

There were some amounts pending on both the cards when my father passed away.

I faxed the death certificate of my Father to HDFC and also informed them about my mothers card which we still till date believe to be an add-on card. .

HDFC people claimed that it was NOT an add-on card and that since it was in her name atleast she will HAVE TO clear off the amount.

I made part payment in cash and was informed that a collection guy would come and collect the next installment.
He never came and even i forgot about it.
then one day i got a call from another collection agency , and i informed them that YES, i was about to make the payment but since your collection guy didn't come, i could not.
so i asked them to send someone over and accept the 2nd installment.

They however accepted that payment into my Fathers card A/c , which i was informed that it would be closed since the holder has passed away.

later when i realised the error, i spoke to the nodal officer and he got some one from complaints board ofHDFC to speak to me.
Again She was stuck at the same thing. She insisted that there was nothing that can e done and i NEED to clear up both my Fathers and Mothers CC A/c's.
When i asked for their official Policy and Procedure regarding a Death Case , i was not provided with ANY information and was given a Runaround.

So i called up HDFC CC Cust-care and i asked them about the companies policy regarding death of the primary card holder, no one gave me a proper answer.

They just keep saying that I HAVE TO settle the amounts on both the cards and are not willing to even consider/listen to my greivance.
Their complaint rederssal people just get stuck on a revcord repeating the same stuff over and over again. .

My father also Held 2 similar HSBC Credit Cards , and they stopped the collections calls upon realising that the Primary Card Holder was No More, when i sent them the death certificate and closed the A/c.

I need to know what i could do in this case.

I can be contacted at: flankerfreak@gmail.com

Default DIsputed transaction on HSBC Credit card

    Dear Sir,
I was HSBC credit card user since last 8 years. Till date I have been paying all my dues regularly and having a clear payment track record. Everything was fine till an unfortunate incident happened with me while my outing to Shanghai,China. My card was stolen and before I report it, it was swiped by some miscreants for an amount of about Rs.50,000/- . It is this time, when I felt like leveraging my loyalties with the bank and expected some cooperation from the bank.

However I am deeply hurt from the response I did get from the bank. The bank simply sent me a letter saying that since the transaction was done before I reported the loss, I am liable to pay the charges. I agree to this in some way. However I informed the bank that the transaction was not done by me and asked for investigation. I asked to retrieve the payslip and check the merchants record. But to my surprise, the bank has least bothered to check on my request. Only after 4 months of my hard follow up they sent me the transaction slip, on which there are no valid signatures of mine. I kept following up with the bank but everytime I did get the same response i.e the bank is not liable for any transaction before reporting lost card.

Its been more than a year now and the interest on the underlyeing amount is piling up.I am not sure about what to do now.

To add to that I myself went to the HSBC branch office in Malad in May 09, where there executive agreed to reach a settlement. They agreed on discussion to settle my account by paying Rs.15000/-. Then I kept waiting for two months without there response. Now after two months they are again calling and asking me to pay the full sum.

Also I request any of the readers, who has gone through similar case to please help me by giving some suggestions/assistance in getting the matter resolved.

    Regards
    Abhijeet

(But one doubt lingers me again and again and bit worrysome. Does this mean that when we are handling credit card , is it as bad as holding equal amount of cash, that anybody can get hold of it and swipe it out. If thats the case, then lets do away with the cards. Even after reporting within an hour of the lost card, the bank could not stop or atleast verify the transaction is bit unnerving. However I am still fighting the cause with the bank and looking out for some help.)

My apologies for mistakably putting up my issue (HSBC CC Dispute) above this thread. I am not able to delete the same. Request the moderator to clear it from here. I have already created a new thread for the same.
