Dear Mr.Rajeev
Thank you for writing to SBI Cards.
This is with reference to your communication dated June 04, 2008.
Charges : We would like to share with you that against the outstanding balance
of Rs. 13669.33 billed in your statement dated January 01, 2008 we have
received part payment of Rs.900.00 on your account. Therefore your card account
was levied with finance charges.
Every month, your statements are dispatched on the 1st of every month. You have
an option of paying the complete amount due (this appears as total outstanding
on your statement) or the minimum amount due which is either Rs.200.00 or 5% of
the total amount due, whichever is greater.
Kindly note that your payment due date is twenty days after your statement
billing date. Please ensure your payment of atleast the minimum amount due
reaches us by the payment due date.
The interest free credit period for a purchase (and any related debited charge)
apply if the outstanding balance on the card account for the previous statement
period is paid in full by its payment due date. In case payment, is made less
than the minimum amount due or any other amount less than the total outstanding,
your payment revolves on your card account, thus no interest free credit period
available to the card member.
The finance charge will be levied at 3.10% per month ( 37.20% per annum) on a
daily balance basis. (balance subject to finance charge will include opening
balance and fresh purchases). This process continues till the complete
outstanding on your card account is paid in full.
Please note that with the revolving credit facility you can pay only the minimum
amount each month, Your payment must reach us before the payment due date. A
service charge will be applicable to outstanding carried forward, to the full
amount due, if part payment is made to fresh billings. The minimum amount due
which are repaid 20 days or more after the payment due date will attract a late
payment charges 30% of minimum amount due (minimum Rs. 350, Maximum Rs. 600 +
12.36%GST). Thus, please send your payments at least equal to your minimum
amount due by the payment due date every month.
Please note that it takes up to four days for us to realize the payment made or
sent by you. In your case, we received the payment later than the payment due
date. We would request you to plan to send your payments a few days before the
payment due date, so that your account is not levied with any late charges. The
payment due date is the latest date by which the bank should receive the cheque.
We wish to inform you that your SBI Card revolving Credit Facility offers you
the power and flexibility to plan payments against you dues. You need to pay
only your €˜minimum amount due€™ every month, and the balance in easy
installments,
You have the choice to pay any part of the balance over the minimum amount you
consider convenient. The minimum amount due is calculated as a certain
percentage of your total outstanding.
Please note that If you send a payment for the Total Balance before the payment
due date, then no interest charges are applied, so you get an interest fee
credit from the date of purchase to the date on which the above payment is due.
Also if you send a payment for the minimum amount due, or pay part amount less
than the total amount due, then interest charges are applied on the balance
amount from the month your payment starts revolving and on fresh charges that
you incur subsequently.
Please note that the minimum amount is calculated as a certain percentage of
your outstanding, as is currently is 5% of you purchases/cash
advance/fees/charges and is subject to a minimum Rs.200.
If there is some unpaid minimum amount due of previous statements, then these
will also be added to the minimum amount due of your current statements.
Further due to the above mentioned reason as per the statement dated June 01,
2008 the minimum amount due is Rs.26903.69 and the total amount due is
Rs.38623.97 on your SBI card account.
Hence, we wish to reiterate that we are unable to reverse any charges levied to
your SBI card account.
In case of any further queries on the SBI Card, we would request you to reply at
feedback.gesbi@... using the same subject line or call our 24 hours, 7 days
a week, at our local Helpline number 39020202 or 1800-1801290 (for BSNL and MTNL

non addressed issues-Show cause Dear Customer Care,
I am a customer of SBI card for long and use it regularly on a monthly basis for so many years now. I have two serious complaints for which I am much anguished and am taking the cases to the consumer forum as your executives express there helplessness in both the matters.
1. I have authorised my SBI card to make my bill payments for Airtel, MTNL and Electricity for the last few months. The bills get paid automatically and I pay by debit of the card regularly. This time my Airtel bill was not paid, on contacting the customer care I was told that because the bank received the electronic generated bill from airtel only on the 19th of Feb and the due date was 21 feb they could not and will not make the payment and I was advised to make the payment with late charges. I asked them why they could not infrom the customes about non payment of Airtel bill considering the customer is resting assured that bill has bee paid, you get a curt reply that we are sorry and we have no such system. The less is said about getting thru' the SBI card helpline number the better . After trying for days realised that we can call the 8 digit no helpline thru a mobile only and yu could atleast get this number. .
2. The other concern is payment of a bill twice. It is the 3rd or 4th time I am paying my SBI creditcard bill for a month twice. You drop your cheque in time and you realise through a phone call from SBI credit card people that payment has not been made and you promptly drop another cheque. You are advised to order stop payment from the other cheque 15 days after you have dropped it for clearance. If SBI can check my previous accounts they will realise how many times this has happened and extra amount was credited into the card account. There is some laxity in the cheque collection system and you are harassing the customer by charging extra money everytime. At times the previous cheque remains untraceable and you are told that you must have dropped into the wrong SBI box without ever telling the customer that the credit card box for SBI card is different than normal cheque boxes of SBI as against all other banks. Only way to know about that is to dare faulter once!.
This has again happened in this month's payment again and I was asked to drop another cheque today which obviously I have, to save myself further harassment. Why should a customer be harassed all the time to go with an application to the bank and pray for stop payment. At times you realise that by that time the previous cheque has already been debited from the account. In case you decide not to make another payment you will get hefty late payment charges and you will spend days getting yourself connected to SBI card help line and then the customer care executive only books your request and you see that nothing happens in the next months account as well then you either try and waste your days getting across to the ill trained people who have little knowledge as to what you can do in such situations.
SBI card should tell me why I should not take these issues to the consumer forum especially the second one since its a long standing problem.
