Hi,

I took an HSBC Credit Card sometime in 2005-2006 in Bangalore.

I left Bangalore in April 2007. I purchased few appliances using the card. I tried to settle my dues by means of cheque, but could not do as I was unable to locate points to do so. My mistake, I neglected the transaction over a course of time and did not use it any further and left it with some outstanding under 10000 Rs. My intention was to pay and settle in cash once I was back to bangalore.

Today (31-Aug-10) I received a legal notice from authoroties asking to settle an outstanding of 61000 INR and to appear before them on 09-Sep-10 to settle dues amiccabily.

While I accept and acknowledge the fact of overdue, I'm in a troubled financial situation. in the last 2 years my parents have fallen sick. My Dad is bedridden due to LocoMotive disorder including Rheumatoid Arthritis and Mom is down with Kidney failure. She is on dialysis two times a week. The medical expenses are eating into my earnings in such a way that I'm left with not much to plan for settlement of HSBC Card payment.

Pls advcie on the fllowing:
1. I'm unable to travel to Bangalore for meeting bank officials and their lawyer. I can't stay away from my family as my parents require care through out. Can I have a representative go for me/ Or can I ask for a settlement in my nearest city (Cochin)?

2.Will I get a chance to bring down my settlement fee? Can I ask for part payments?

Pls advice.
