Default HSBC Credit Card-Additional Membership fees charged.

I was working in Quinnox Consultancy Services, a software firm in Pune. HSBC Software Technology Pvt Ltd was a client of Quinnox for Testing Services.

I was offered credit card by HSBC agent stating that the card is lifetime free card with no charges. He said that since Quinnox is vendor of HSBC, the card will have no fees whatsoever due to "special tie up".

I applied for card as it carried no liability and was free. An additional card was also issued to me for 'free'.

I never used the card as I didn't feel the need to do so. After 16 months of issue of the card I got a message that i have to pay 2000 Rs. When i called the customer care center, they informed me that the payment is for membership fees with late payment charges. I explained them that the card the agent told me the cards are free with no charges whatsoever. They told they cant help me and I have to pay those charges.

Now I have received another message with increased payment charges. This has become a mental trauma for me as I have lost my job and now this.

    Hello,

All the fee details are mentioned on the Credit Card application form, you should read it first before filling it.

Generally the agents hides all such type of information to achieve the target.

If you don't want to pay the fee then simply call the customer care and tell them to stop services.

If still have a question then feel free to call us again.

    Regards,
    Admin.

    Hello,

Forget about the agents. HSBC bank just like that without even asking for a card send us extra credit cards and after 2 years start sending in statements that annual fees need to be paid.

What I really do no understand is, the customer never activates the card (card sent by bank) by calling the bank and the bank never activates it themself too even then customers are asked to pay. I feel, this bank is slowly losing credibility by doing this type of activities.

Similar issue here. I see an annual charge of Rs 2206 levied aginst my HSBC Gold Credit Card with a due date of 24th Feb 2010 on my latest statement. I called them up to check why was it there when this card was supposed to be a lifetime free, as told by their agent at the time of its purchase. This annual fee they have been leving on my credit card for the last 2 years now and on both the occasions I called up their customer service and got them to reverse the annual fee as the card was / is meant to be lifetime free. However, this time they refused to reverse the annual fee stating that they have stopped doing so since Sep-2009. I asked the cust serv rep to cancel my card. She took my reuest, gave me a reuest no. however, expressed her inability in reversing the charge this time round. Now, I am in a dillemma, I do not want to pay for something I never asked for, especially when I have better choices as every other major credit card company offers lifetime free cards. I have not used the card even once the entire year. I guess, we must take this up with them, if possible garner some more people like us facing the same issue with HSBC. I do not want to end up receivng colelction calls for this charge which was never supposed to be there in the first place.

    Thanks,
    Rohit Sharma

    Rohit,
I have excatly the same experience.HSBC reversed these charges last 2 years but this Year they are not.The fact that HSBC reversed the charges last 2 years is an acknowledgement to the fact that the card issues indeed was a liftetime free card and not a limited time period free card. This is certainly misusing public trust and its not even a small amount!
It will be only a matter of time when we meet more people like me and you down the line.HSBC is definiely losing its credibality.

    Regards,

    Bipin
