Angry HDFC Bank credit card settlement and Harrasment.

    Hi,

I was holding HDFC Bank Credit card # 4346 xxxx xxxx 3453. I acquired this card in April 2008 and made a Balance transfer to another card. Now, the problem started after I withdrew cash from the credit card. I started paying regularly, however, I lost my job in 2008 july 2008 and I requested the bank to give me some months holiday so that I can find the job and pay the remaining amount.

I started receiving the calls from different people from the bank and the collection agencies for the recovery of the amount soon after I requested bank for a grace period. Finaly, I got the job on November 2008 and the bank arranged a settlement offer with me after much negotiations and harassment by the collection agencies in March 2009. The settlement amount was agreed for Rs. 19900.

My first EMI was due on 7/3/09 which I paid and the rest EMI I paid on time according to the schedule of the settlement plan. Soon after, I again started receiving calls from the collection agencies to pay the full amount, which I had already paid. I called the bank and they told me that my approval of settlement came on 14/3/09, so they will not honour the first EMI and asked me to pay the Rs 1900 extra over and above the 19400 which I paid. I had the approval date of 6/3/09 on my letter.

Also, there was a clerical mistake on the bank's part in totaling the amount, the settlement was agreed on Rs.19900 and the the bank made all the EMI's for the total of Rs 19400 and wrote 19900 on the total column. Now, they started harassing me for the remaining amount and also, started calling my parents home to extort more money from me. I sent letters to grievance cell of the bank and got no reply, i replied every letter they sent, but the bank have not responded, instead the bank sent me a legal letter from the law firm.

    Kindly suggest.

I have only one option left with me to file a civil suit against the bank.

    Regards,

    Vishal

Here's an interesting news-item for all those who have suffered harassment and humiliation at the hands of HDFC Bank Credit Card Customer Care Executives:

    HDFC Bank MD summoned
    Tribune News Service

    Hisar, June 17
A local court has summoned Aditya Puri, Managing Director of HDFC Bank, to appear in the court on July 17 in connection with a complaint filed against him on charges of extortion under Section 384 of the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant, local resident Gagandeep Mehta, has alleged that he held an HDFC Bank credit card and had been making regular payments to the bank. However, he changed his residence after which he did not receive any monthly statements.

The bank issued him a recovery notice for having failed to pay the minimum outstanding dues. The complainant said after receiving the notice he deposited Rs 11,000 on February 2 last year and sought duplicate bank statements from December, 2008, to March, 2009. The bank refused to supply the statements.

He again deposited a total of Rs 14,000 on three occasions, but the statements were still not supplied.

Later, the bank offered him a settlement for Rs 27,600. However, when he asked for details of transactions, the bank refused. Instead he was issued a legal notice asking him to pay Rs 47,005. He alleged that he was threatened and abused by bank officials.

The complainant then filed a complaint in the court of Sunita Gupta, Judicial Magistrate, Ist Class, who has summoned Puri on July 17 to stand trial.
