I am holding a HSBC credit card since June 2008. I have always made all my payments on time before the due date as per the statement.
Before few months, I did not receive a statement so I called up HSBC to inform them that I have not received the statement and they told me that if I have not used the card then the statement will not be generated. Thenafter, I again did not received a statement in a later month and in the next month, I had received a statement with Late Payment Fees and Finance Charges, I called up the bank and informed them about it and they told me that they can only waive the Late Payment Fees and I have to pay the finance charges. I did so as the amount was not a bigger one.
But again, in the month of February 2010, I did not receive the statement and in the next month I got a call on 22nd March from the recovery agency that I have a due of Rs. 1700/- on my card and was asked to make the payment at the earliest. I told him that I have not received the statement for the same and they told me that they will send the duplicate statement but I have to make the payment as the new statement is going to be generated on 23rd of March, I straight went to the bank and made a payment of Rs. 2000/-.
To my surprise, the next statement came with a finance charges of Rs. 3500/- and I called up the bank and they informed me that the due as per the last statement was Rs. 32568/- and you have made a payment of Rs. 2000/- and that is why these finance charges have come and you have to pay these charges and they will not be refunding the charges back to me.
Please guide me as what to do in this case.
