    Default Harassment by HDFC Bank

    Respected Sir,

This is Wasim Ahmed. I had a credit card No. 5136521005652153 from HDFC Bank. I'm not using that credit card from past 6 months but making payment of minimum balance, now there was some outstanding on my a/c which I didn't pay because I’m out of job & not financial sound.

Now I am getting calls from (Tel. : No. +912041000000) HDFC recovery section, the HDFC Bank (a Lady) and she harassed me & my family members and telling me to borrow money from relatives & neighbors or whosoever. An executive who was earlier handling this case named Shirin Khan has handled properly, but this executive named Preeti Priyadarshini had made me going frenzy. I was regular contact, and first I asked for the settlement as I'm abou to get my Provident fund amount. They told me that even after I get the settlement from bank, my name will be shown in CIBIL. Then I refused to do that. Another HDFC employee told me that it is not like that and settlement would not put my name under CIBIL. Then he suggeseted me to refuse the payment for this month as minimum due is only serving the interest. Thus, I refused to pay the amount and told them to talk to IMMACULATE DEBT SOLUTION, an agency who handle my case of settlement now. Rather, they said that they're not going to call any third party on my behalf and told me to make payment immediately. I then talked to her supervisor, named Gauri (020-41218008) and assurred her as I get any information from IMMACULATE, I'll revert bank to the bank. Instead, she started shouting saying "all this NAUTANKI" and "I'm a defaulter" and used aggressive terms and then disconnected the call. They then somehow managed to get my father's number and started calling him and telling him to make payment on behalf of mine. They're not calling me now, instead calling my father multiple times.

I'm finding this unacceptable calling my father even I'm taking their calls. I'm making another payment of minimum due and want to take legal actions for the loss of reputation of my father and my inconvenience.

The credit card is issued in my Name and neither my father nor any of my family members is supposed to do anything with my credit cards.

Please revert back to me with suggestion before I proceed with my case.

    Regards
    Wasim Ahmed

    Hi
HDFC credit card problems? I had an HDFC credit card. There were some charges levied on me for certain expenses which I was not informed about in certain cases & where the customer care people when contacted on phone gave me wrong information.

    1) Currency conversion charges still not resolved (Rs1482.44) [2007.67* 3.5%]-595.50
    2) Surcharge charged on fuel but never refunded. (Rs1500) paid for petrol
    2) Card lost but the manager told me that he would not charge me extra for a new card. Later on I found new card issue fee charged. (Rs100)

My 2/09/07 statement showed an excess balance of Rs4,971.76
    1) On 15/09/07 I made an transaction of $50 (Rs 2007.67) & I was told by the customer care representative that I would be charged 3.5% as currency conversion fees which I agreed to as all credit cards charge this for currency conversion.

On 20/09/07 I received a refund of $15 (Rs 595.50) from the same seller with whom I had made the transaction as he had overcharged me.

On 15/09/07 I saw Rs81.47 reflecting on my statement which confused me. I called up the customer care cell of HDFC & they said it was finance charges.

That was when I really got mad as nobody could give me a proper explanation why the charges where levied on me. I contacted customer care on phone at least 25 times wrote emails & they insisted that they where finance charges.

On 30/09/07 there was cess- currency conversion fee .25
On 30/09/07 there was service tax currency conversion fee Rs8.48 in my 2/11/007 statement

As I had mentioned earlier I was only told about 3.5% currency conversion fees which I agreed to pay. I was not told anything about 12 % & 3%. for multiple transactions.

Secondly I have not made any multiple transactions. It was a refund from the seller whom I had contacted only once for a refund which he immediately did so as he knew he was wrong.

Thirdly if you calculate 3.5 % of Rs2007.67 you get Rs 70.27 approx & they have charged me Rs81.47 which all the customer care rep where saying are finance charges & not currency conversion charges. If you cannot train the executives properly they should not be allowed to take calls

Please note that my 2/09/07, 2/10/07 & 2/11/07 statement s had an excess balance lying with HDFC from 28/08/07. I had also never received statements from the bank as I did not owe the bank anything. I had to call the customer care Dept regularly asking them to send my statements which they ignored.

    2) On 16/11/07 & 21/11/07 I put petrol worth Rs 1000 & Rs500 & was charged Rs1025 & Rs512.50 (surcharge of Rs25 & Rs 12.50) Which was supposed to be reversed in my next statement which never happened

    3) They reversed the charges of R112.36 levied on 7/11/07 for issuing a new card to Rs 100 on 22/12/07.
    In my statement dated 2/01/08.
I blocked the card on 2nd Jan 2008 at approx 6:45 pm & their customer care rep gave me the reference number.
The latest outstanding according to them written in their last email which I received on 15 May 2008 is Rs 1500.41. which is still incorrect.
Their communication is misleading which leads to additional charges which could have been avoided.
Had their communication skills been effective & crystal clear no such misunderstanding would have arouse. When I have cleared their dues of more than Rs18000 before the due date due you think I would be arguing with you for a small amount?
    I have been cheated.
I demand that they compensate me for harassment, mental torture and the amount of time they have made me waste on writing & sending emails for charges which where not told to me & then charged. The Finance charges, late fee charges & taxes are accumulating every month
My dues are all settled with them & I have no relationship with HDFC

Now they have sent their recovery agent to claim money which I do not owe the bank. Please advise me as to what should do.

Default HDFC Bank M.D. summoned by Hisar Court

Here's an interesting news-item for all those who have suffered harassment and humiliation at the hands of HDFC Bank Credit Card Customer Care Executives:

    HDFC Bank MD summoned
    Tribune News Service

    Hisar, June 17
A local court has summoned Aditya Puri, Managing Director of HDFC Bank, to appear in the court on July 17 in connection with a complaint filed against him on charges of extortion under Section 384 of the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant, local resident Gagandeep Mehta, has alleged that he held an HDFC Bank credit card and had been making regular payments to the bank. However, he changed his residence after which he did not receive any monthly statements.

The bank issued him a recovery notice for having failed to pay the minimum outstanding dues. The complainant said after receiving the notice he deposited Rs 11,000 on February 2 last year and sought duplicate bank statements from December, 2008, to March, 2009. The bank refused to supply the statements.

He again deposited a total of Rs 14,000 on three occasions, but the statements were still not supplied.

Later, the bank offered him a settlement for Rs 27,600. However, when he asked for details of transactions, the bank refused. Instead he was issued a legal notice asking him to pay Rs 47,005. He alleged that he was threatened and abused by bank officials.

The complainant then filed a complaint in the court of Sunita Gupta, Judicial Magistrate, Ist Class, who has summoned Puri on July 17 to stand trial.
