Is it compulsory for banks to send a credit card statement if the account is functioning? I have an credit card with SCB. For the past year i did not receive a single statement from them. Suddenly after a year, they are at me asking for Rs. 5k so as to close the account. The balance according to them on the card was Rs500. Now, due to interest and other charges it is Rs5k. Had they mailed me the statement I would have made the payment at that point of time itself. However they did not do so. There were no transactions made with the card for the past year. I was under the impression that the balance is nil. I wanted to know if it compulsory for banks to send a credit card statement since I think this is a form of modus operandi used to extract more money from me.
