    Question SBI Card-Suggestion

    Sir / Madam, Date : 03-Oct-2009.

I took a SBI Credit Card in 2007. The Agent from SBI Card told me that there were no charges for taking the card and there were NO ANNUAL CHARGES for that too. And as I was busy in official work, I signed the form on good faith on that Agent. And thereafter, phone calls from SBI Card started to come for taking loan. I refused to take loan many times but they insisted me to take the loan as it was absolutely necessary for keeping the card alive. Then I agreed and they send me a draft for Rs. 5000/- (Rupees Five Thousand Only) [ Draft No. 586947 dated 31-03-2007]

After receiving the draft, I instantly made the payment of Rs. 5224.00 by Cheque No. 268396. The receipt of that amount is with me. Then I called the SBI Card and told them to close my account as I do not need that credit Card. The person told me over phone that they have received my payment and there was no outstanding balance against my name. He told me that he has closed my account and instructed me to cut the Credit card and to drop it into the DROP BOX. Accordingly, I did the same and thought that my account has been closed.

And now, after two years somebody from SBI Card told me over phone that there was an outstanding amount of Rs. 6300/- against me. Then he again told me that if I am ready to pay Rs. 3500/- he will give a SETTLEMENT LETTER and close my account otherwise I will have face LEGAL NOTICE.

I refused to pay the amount because why should I pay some money without any fault of mine ?

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW ? PLEASE ADVICE.

    Dear Mr. Gupta,

To sort out such kind of Banking complaints, you will have to send a written complaint to the Head Office of the concerned Bank and wait for the response for near 15 to 20 days. If the Bank fails to provide you any help in that time frame then you can send your written complaint to the RBIs Banking Ombudsman division.
