This is to report a case of fraud that occurred with me and two friends on 2 May 2011.
Me and my friends had gone to watch the 8:30 PM - show of SOURCE CODE at BIG CINEMAS, Viva Collage, Jalandhar on the 2 May 2011. We had found the details of the show from the cinema's official website. It was not mentioned on the website that the ENGLISH movie is being shown in any other language. We brought the tickets after checking the show-timings and the name of the movie from the LCD-display above the ticket-counter. After we had brought the tickets and gone inside the theatre, we got to know that the movie was not SOURCE CODE but "KAL CHAKRA", which we realized was the dubbed version of SOURCE CODE in HINDI. Also, me and my friends were not the only ones who were victims of this fraud. Two other groups of people who were seated inside complained of being victims of the same fraud. The name of the movie was mentioned wrongly on the tickets that we had brought, as "SOURCE CODH (U/A)", instead of "KAL CHAKRA" or "SOURCE CODE(HINDI)". In case the language of the film is different from the original language of the film, the modified language's name is always suffixed to the name of the movie mentioned anywhere, for example "SOURCE CODE (HINDI) (U/A)". In this case, it was not mentioned on the tickets, on the cinema's official website or even on the LCD-notifications at the ticket-counter. Moreover, while buying the tickets, we were not informed by the ticket-counter that the movie was in another language than the original. This was the case with the two parties, whose contact-details have been mentioned above for reference.
Me and my friends left the cinema-hall accompanied by the two other groups, immediately after realizing that we were victims of the fraud. Someone from the management of the cinema, who claimed to be the highest authority at the cinema there, argued with us that the name of the movie was mentioned as “SOURCE CODH (U/A)” because it was a movie dubbed in Hindi. He also claimed to be wrong on no part and informed all the victim-parties that their arguments were “irrelevant”.
Me and my three friends immediately left to search for the right Police Station to register a FIR. We reached the RAMA MANDI Police Station around 2230 hours (approximately). The ASI in-charge (whose cell-phone’s Bluetooth name had a suffix “JAMBA”) refused to register a FIR saying that we were “children” and we could not register a FIR unless they had “confirmed” our report first. He refused to register a DDR on the same grounds. After we gave a written complaint in English according to the format informed to us by one of the police officials at the Police-station, the ASI said the writing was like that of a minor and that we should write the complaint in Punjabi.
The written complaint in Punjabi and English was submitted by us without the ASI in-charge agreeing to give us a proof of this submission.
