This is to bring to your kind notice that I, Irfan Ahmad, is the owner of a private vehicle purchased on 22/09/10 from Mohan Motor Udyog, A. J. C. Bose Road, Kolkata, West Bengal and was insured by Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Co. Ltd. on 30/09/10.

I beg to state that this new car had met with an accident on 27/11/10. The car fell into a big pothole at E.M. Byepass, Kolkata and the engine stopped to function. I failed to start the car further and was forced to take the help of a towing agency to pull the car to the service centre of Mohan Motor Udyog, Kolkata. The service centre after inspection informed that the underbody of the car was severely damaged. The claim form was sent to the Royal Sundaram office along with requisite papers on 09/12/10 and the car was inspected at the service centre by Mr. Shanti Kumar of Royal Sundaram.
Since then, I had constantly called up the Kolkata office of Royal Sundaram situated at "Millennium City" Information Technology Park, Unit No.T-2-2A, Tower-II, Plot No.DN-62, Sector-V, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700 091 and also send mails to their head office at Sundaram Towers, 46 Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai – 600014 for an early settlement of the bills raised by Mohan Motor Udyog, Kolkata. The total amount of the Bill amounted to Rs. 37,770/- [Rupees Thirty seven thousand seven hundred & seventy only].
With reference to their letter dated 18/04/11 & 28/06/11 it was decided by Royal Sundaram that as per their condition no.4 I am liable to be paid Rs. 1758/- [HDFC Bank Cheque No. – 901307 dated 18/04/11] out of Rs. 37,770/- which have been my actual expenses.
I fail to understand even after submission of the whole incident in writing several times, enclosing along with my towing bill which clearly proves that the vehicle was not “left unattended without proper precautions being taken to prevent further damage or loss” & neither was the “vehicle driven before the necessary repairs are effected” [causes shown by Royal Sundaram]. On the contrary the vehicle was taken by a towing agency to the nearest Maruti Suzuki Service Centre [ Mohon Motor Udyog] for proper maintenance work to be done.
I am completely dissatisfied with Royal Sundaram’s malicious motives to betray the customers of their logical claims and hence had no other options but to further proceed the matter with Consumer Court.
Kindly take up the matter with most urgency so that such companies may not go scot free after charging substantial amounts as premiums from the general public and at times of insurance claim settlements they pay a paltry sum of money which they think is suitable for them.
I feel the citizens of this country are being cheated by Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Co. Ltd. and Consumer Court, which upholds the interests of the consumers, should take cognizance of this matter and bring Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company Ltd. to justice.
