I am resident in Murugeshpallaya, Bangalore and had applied for a new Airtel broadband connection on 1st November, 2011. I had contacted Mr. Amresh (9902090002) after having seen his name for various pamphlets sticking around my residence for Airtel Broadband. He sent a certain Mr. Madhu(9741123819) to my house who filled the application form. I paid Rs. 1699/- in CASH as the tariff fee (in which the initial installation charges were waivered, since I was paying the advance payment for a month, or so I was told by Mr Madhu). I was promised that the connection would be activated in 2-3 days, and a technician would visit my place to setup the connection to whom I was supposed to pay Rs. 1500/- as modem charges. After 3 days, i.e. on 4th November, I tried to contact Mr. Madhu. Upon answering he informed me that I would be receiving a call by 5th evening, which obviously didn't happen. Then, again I started calling him from 8th November, to which there was no response. He seemed to have made it a point to not pick my calls. Then i tried calling Mr. Amresh. After repeatedly trying his number, he did pick up my call once. Upon giving him the details of my case, he told me sincerely that he would call me back within 15minutes after verifying with his engineering team, which again, did not happen. I kept waiting for an hour, and then started calling him again. To this date and time, he hasnt picked up my calls. Just to be sure, I asked a friend to call on his number. Mr Amresh seemed to have no problem in picking up his call within 2-3 secs. He repeated the same procedure to get a new connection to my friend. My friend hung up on him, but Mr Amresh called him back in an hour. I then contacted Airtel customer care. There, I was informed that my connection has not been setup because of some "technical" issues, to which i promptly asked what these "issues" were. A complaint was lodged with the no. 6986436 and i was told that the technical team would give me a call to explain to me the real reasons why the connection could not be setup.
I did receive this call in about 3-4 hours, and was told that the port/node near my building is full and can't provide anymore new connections. And Airtel is desperately trying to install a new node/port but they are unable to do so because Bangalore Municipal Corporation is not giving them the necessary permission to dig. He asked me to wait for 5-7 days. But I asked him to cancel my request and that I wanted a refund. For this I again had to call the customer care number and apply for cancellation. The operator informed me that my request was cancelled/rejected on 3rd November intself, just 2 days after I applied for the connection, and that I would receive a cheque within 15 days from the date of cancellation.
I am aghast at the Airtel authorities regarding the fact that they didn't inform me that my connection got rejected, and that I had to keep calling their local THUGS (Mr Amresh and Mr Madhu) who never bothered to respond. Also, it came to my notice that another colleague of mine had to undergo the same process and was given the same word-to-word reason for non-installation of a new connection. I fail to understand as to why does Airtel allow its sales executives to sell new connections when they cannot install them.
This is a clear case of getting CONNED by Airtel.
