I stay in the posh locality of HSR Layout, Sector-1 in Bangalore. This place is just 9KM from M.G.Road and 2KM from Koramangala the heart of this metropolitan city. I fell pray to the promises of 3mbps speed (500kbps guaranteed under any circumstances), and made the mistake of purchasing (crappy and extortionist service of ) Reliance Netconnect broadband data card in late 2009 without asking for a demonstration in my locality. My problems started immediately after the purchase when I realized that the signal strength in my locality is PATHETIC with my datacard failing to connect most of the times and if connected, with NIGHTMARISH speeds of around 10KBPS on an average!! It is nothing short of SHOCKING to note that ALL this was for a price of Rs 3500/- for the data card (non-refundable), and Rs 1100/- per month for the service!! For one month I logged complaints after complaints, with the (incompetent) technical support person finally checking in my locality to reluctantly admit that there is a network problem and that will be adressed soon. Yes, as you guessed right this has NOT been addressed by incompetent Reliance (un)professionals TILL DATE (i.e 2012). The signal strengths are so poor, even my 3 year old Reliance mobile number DOES NOT WORK AT MY HOME! I was FORCED to use this NIGHTMARISH broadband service ONLY BECAUSE I PAID Rs 3500/- for the data card, but decided to put an end to my MISERY in April 2011 after nearly 18 months of use. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WAS PROMPT IN PAYING THE BILL UNTIL April 2011 without any delay. When I placed my termination request over phone to the Reliance (un)professionals, I realized the next NIGHTMARE in the service : the whole closure process is a TRAP made as difficult as it is easy to subscribe to their service! After all, the UNETHICAL Reliance professionals know that it is ONLY the recurring income of an account that lets those lowly, incompetent (un)professionals earn their living on this planet. The first hurdle : they REFUSE to take the termination request on phone after asking 10 questions on why you want to terminate and annoyingly persuading you to continue the service ('read' it as continue feeding those incompetent parasites!). If you insist on termination then they ask you to visit the nearest Reliance web world to place the termination request asking you to pay up all outstanding then and there as a pre-requisite. After placing my termination request at the FORUM mall Reliance web world in the first week of April 2011 and dumping the data card in the dustbin as good riddance, I was hoping that the nonsense of well over a year has come to an end. But nah nah, soon I got a call from a worried customer service manager again persuading me to continue my charity to Reliance, ASSURING that the technical difficulties (which they didn't bother to fix for 18 months) will be resolved and that as an existing customer I will even be given the service of Rs 1100/- per month at just Rs 600/-. Again, the idiot in me fell for the persuasion and lure of half the price, and STRICTLY UNDER THE CONDITION THAT THE TECHNICAL ISSUE WITH THE SIGNAL STRENGTH WILL BE RESOLVED IN ONE WEEK AT MY SITE, agreed to continue the service. Immediately in a couple of days came the technical support person to my home to check on the signal strength BUT FAILED TO CONNECT CONSISTENTLY OR IMPROVE THE SPEED OF 10KBPS. I assumed that the service will now be automatically terminated, but to my SHOCK discovered that Reliance has sent me a full bill after a month until May!!! I called up Reliance and was told by the executive that the technical support person has mentioned (i.e SHAMELESSLY LIED) in his report that the CUSTOMER ISSUE IS RESOLVED AND I AM HAPPY WITH THE SIGNAL AND SPEED!!!!!!! I started fuming and fought with the unethical executives on phone to log a complaint, but was requested to go to the Reliance web world in Forum mall once again to make the outstanding payment to place another termination request, assuring me that the issue will be resolved. Completely pissed off, and to avoid accumulating more bills from this UNETHICAL company, I visited Forum mall a second time to pay for a month of unused service. But I WAS SHOCKED YET AGAIN when I got another bill in June 2011 asking me to pay another Rs 1100/- WHICH I FLATLY REFUSED and logged a detailed complaint with an executive in Mumbai explaining the harassment for about 30 minutes! He finally assured me that I NEED NOT PAY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY-JUNE AND MY SERVICE WILL BE TERMINATED. Thankfully, the service was terminated but after sometime with penalty added, I got a notification to pay approximately Rs 1500/-. I ignored these notifications, until I received a LEGAL NOTICE threatening me to pay or come to the civil court! I talked to the suggested executive (one bullshit lady) to be even negotiated to pay Rs 500/- to close the case!! I told her that I already paid for an UNUSED month of April-May and hence refused to pay even a penny more, challenging her to do whatever she wants. A few days later I received a summons from the court which I ignored, and soon got a call from another female executive to whom I explained all the bullshit to arrive at a FINAL agreement with her that I will pay IF SHE CAN CHECK RELIANCE TRACKING SYSTEM FOR EVEN A SINGLE BYTE OF NETWORK USAGE DURING THE SAID PERIOD. Obviously, she did NOT get back to me since my data card was thrown out of the window after April 2011 with ZERO usage, WITH MY DECISION THAT I AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL NEVER USE A RELIANCE SERVICE IN OUR LIVES!!!! I assumed that finally the harassment has ended forever, when I get a call on Jun-28-2012 from a person claiming to be Reliance's advocate (supposedly named Krishnamurthy, from mobile : +919886014477) at 3PM threatening me to pay Rs 2038/- by 6PM either online or at the civil court, Bangalore to AVOID facing an arrest warrant from the police!!! He was unable to talk in a language other than "Kannada" and used harsh words refusing to even listen to my request to talk to the concerned manager (supposedly Mr Nagaraja Shetty) of Reliance. Since I did not want to take a chance, I paid up Rs 2038/- online as per the instructions from a collection department (looks like Reliance employs rowdies) scoundrel by 4PM and then called up the f*kng advocate-imposter giving him the payment proof and THREATENED to file a case on the grounds of poor service, negligence and harassment in the consumer forum in Bangalore.
I am a post-graduate from the IIT and strong on values to never hold up even a single rupee payment to another person in my life till date. I will ENSURE that Reliance has to pay me not just Rs 2038/-, but ALSO penalty for their BILLING FRAUD AND 3RD CLASS HARASSMENT. An experienced consumer forum lawyer has just informed me that this is enough to sue Reliance and the concerned managers for a HEAVY compensation with a quick judgement.
My Reliance broadband number is 9343638397, and I have documents in proof of placing the termination request twice at Reliance web world, subsequent complaints with Reliance call center and also details of the harassment call I received today. Its time to teach Mr Anil Ambani that a month's rental EXTORTION is NOT worth loss of 10 customers for a LIFETIME!! No business that has ill-treated its customers has ever stood the test of time historically!!! All the grieving consumers here who have NOT yet been compensated adequately by Reliance, PLEASE BE CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO FILE YOUR CASE IN THE (GOVERNMENT) CONSUMER FORUMS to teach such UNETHICAL BUSINESSES a lesson!
