    Default Icici bank delay with outstation cheques

    Dear Sir,


    1. On 09 March 12, I personally deposited two cheques(No 888992 and 888995) drawable at SBI, Uran Branch at Panjim branch and am in possession of receipt for the same.
    3. I was assured that they would be credited in two working days. Sure enough, both the cheques were reflected in my account by PM 10 March. However, the same amount was immediately debited from my account and the same reflected in my statement.
    4. From 12 March onwards started a harrowing series of phone calls to the bank demanding an explanation. After two days of relentless calls, I made to believe that the cheques would be mailed to my address, which never happened. When I enquired again after 7 working days, I was told that my cheques had been wrongly placed with the local clearing section and would be credited by 22 March.
    5. That never happened and I lodged a complaint with a phone banking officer. And on 26 March, 17 days post deposition, I was asked to wait till 02 Apr.
    6. A few questions
    (a) All the phone banking officers are clueless when I initially call them and it takes at least 15 minutes online for them to get grasp on the situation. And it is a repititive process. Isnt there some kind of a call database maintained.
    (b) Why should a customer have to wait 25 days, just to encash a cheque?
    (c) If it was the bank's fault, why wasnt I informed until I had made repeated calls over a week?
    (d) How do you make up for the inconvenience caused to me by the bank's incompetence?
