Dear Sir,
I am holding a saving bank account with Bank of Baroda, Atmajyoti Ashram branch, Racecourse, Vadodara, Gujarat since more than 30 years now. The account number of the same is 14790100010285.
On 2nd December, 2011, I had deposited a cheque for Rs. 105715.74 Ps. in the same. This got cleared on 3rd December, 2011. It was a PAYABLE AT PAR cheque of HDFC Bank, Delhi Branch.
On 3rd December, 2011 itself, there was a charge of Rs. 175 levied in the account. However no reason or narration was given for the same in the passbook.
Then, when I went to the branch to get a clarification about the debit, I was informed it is a clearing charge for an “OUTSTATION” cheque. I informed them that it was not an “OUTSTATION” cheque but a PAYABLE AT PAR cheque, to which I was replied that it is as per RBI’s mandate.
We were given no intimation in advance of any such changes. In other private banks, PAYABLE AT PAR cheques are cleared locally. Moreover in these days and age where RBI is promoting speed clearing wherein all outstation cheques are to be cleared locally if it is CBS enabled branch, such charges are not justifiable. If such charges are going to be levied on PAYABLE AT PAR cheques, then what is the difference between a PAYABLE AT PAR cheque and a local cheque?
I was informed that the charges were correctly debited and that they will not be reversed no matter what.
I am not satisfied with the service meted out and would like your kind intervention for my grievance redressed.
Kindly assist and oblige.
Regards,
Dilip V. Vasa.
