My husband and me jointly have a savings account with United Bank of India, cantonemt Branch,Bangalore. My husband had taken a loan from citibank and given post dated cheques towards the EMI.Since 2004, the cheques have been cleared without any hitch every single time. This June 2009 when the loan account was closed, we were surprised that Citibank has charged an amount of Rs.562/- towards cheque bouncing charges on the 2nd of May 2008. On verifying the details, I came to know that United Bank of india, cantonment branch, Bangalore had wrongfully returned the said cheque due to insufficient balance, when there was sufficient balance to honor the cheque. The same cheque was again paid on the 13th May 2008. Citibank has charged interest for the lapsed period also. Apart from this goof up, the Bank has charged me Rs.90 from my savings account (single holder) on the same day of return.
On receipt of details from citibank , my husband gave a written complaint on the 30th of June 2009 to United Bank of india, cantonment branch to re-imburse the amount of Rs.562/- which citibank had charged him as cheque bouncing charges, not to mention the other charges that were applied to me and the interest on the loan for the lapse in payment. The bank has not responded till date inspite of repeated oral requests.
I request you to kindly take up the matter with the Manager of United Bank of India, cantonment Branch, Bangalore ,Mr.Rajesh Kumar. I do not understand why I should be penalised with Rs. 90/- for a cheque not pertaining to my account and my husband the charges of Rs 562/- for wrongful dishonour of cheque.
Hoping to hear from you in this regard
Thank you,
with regards
