In September '09 my fatrher My Ramesh Shukla who is a senior citizen and myself-Rashmi Shukla booked 2 separate holiday vouchers through Indiatoday Book club for Big city Promotions. Inspite of paying Rs 3198 through credit card and also sending Rs 899 dd separately for both holuday vouchers we are still not getting our holiday vouchers.

I am really fed up of chasing with this Big city Promotions for the same. I have tried to call them several times and always I get different answers. The latest one is that when I called them, they are insisting that I should send my air travel tickets so that they can book the holiday vouchers. Why should i send air tickets fax to them when I have only booked holiday voucher.

Since these holidays were booked through Indiatoday book club, request you to please help me in getting both my holiday vouchers at the earliest.

Please find the chain mails that I have been going on sending to them along with all relevant attachments and please help me for the same.

White Collared Cheating - False Promises

There was a call from your sales guy telling me that i am one of th selected 20 in the final draw of your lucky draw where the first prize is 8L, 2nd prize is 6L and the 3rd prize is Maruthi SX4 car. rest of the 17 including me if i don't win the 3 prizes will get an assured consolation prize of 10000 rupees by cheque or DD. i know the assured prizes and the lucky draw never exists. I was told that i would get the Kodak C182 camera with a 4GB card for Rs. 7598. i have got the camera today. there was no 4GB card which was promised. Secondly, the box says it should have a 2GB card, Battery charger, AV cable and the camera pouch. All these are missing. I cannot imagine such a big reputed company can steal the acessories and just send the camera. Can someone look into this and revert back to me. Please don't cheat people and bring down the reputation of such a big company.

thanks to all of them, you saved me!!! i never ever tried to book any thing even a book from india today book club, they all are fraud, they took the credit card details and swap our credit card with the 2 -3 orders. and you know guys they are actully booming, they are doing fraud with customer, they earn lot of money from our pocket, and if you talking about the ITBC staff they all are Unprofessional, Manner less, and Uneducated. Having been grossly misinformed by ITBC sweepstakes committee about the
contest and for the purchases made by the undersigned, I request ITBC to
please cancel all my orders [880127049, 880127399, 880126207, 880126208
], take back the vouchers and refund back my money. I have no interest left
in your Contest. I was told of these mandatory purchases to continue in the sweepstakes.

I know now, why anything about the sweep stakes contest, this phone trap
methodology, the procedures and the commitments were not made either
through print or electronic media. Between my interaction with your
attendants, Mr. Pankaj ,Mr. Neeraj, Ms. Heena, Mr. Bhaseen!!!, Mr.x, Mr. Y and Ms. Z, I repeatedly asked this question why they were not giving any information
in writing about the contest, my position, how I was selected and how
things would improve if I keep buying. I was given some strange replies that
this was the policy etc. I was a fool to believe their words. Please
instruct your people not to resort to such cheap gimmicks for it spoils the
name of one of the greatest brand that is "India Today"(I for one shall
never buy this magazine now. This whole affair has left such a bad taste).

The first call came on 9th where a deal was made (booking ID-880127049).I
was made to believe by your gentleman that I was among top 5 (or top 3, was
it?). If I buy a product, I improve and get a Rs. 25, 000 /-Voucher (I was
not told that it would be of split value of Rs. 5000/-). Second call came on
10th afternoon, showing me a moon again. I brought a Samsung Omnia
(880127399) which I later reversed to Sony cybershot(880126207) and for a
Rs. 25, 000/- voucher and some free gifts. I was promised that my Samsung
amount of Rs. 14, 998 /- would be reversed the following day .I was told that
I now stood chance of a good prize money from 8 lacs to Rs. 25, 000/-.And
that minimum amount of Rs. 25, 000/- was guaranteed in Cash(this was
specifically confirmed by me). Then came a bombshell to buy one more product
for locking ID and i brought a combo offer (880126208).I was told that it
was necessary to get a locking ID and that 10th was the last date. I
reluctantly agreed. .[ Surprisingly even after a week of my first complaint
for refund on 880127399, I am told today that you are yet to listen to
recordings and you need more days to decide!!!) .
I also add here that your products are old models and not at a very downto
earth prices, only the stupid vouchers and unncessary gifts add to the
hype.You can check the internet for price.

I got another call on 11th for buying something for Locking ID. That was the
time I sensed that things were a farce and that I was fooled.How could
someone want me to get a Lockin ID on 11th when I was told that 10th was the
last date . I sensed things were fishy. In between I called customer Care
and they had a surprise look in their voice and said it was some other
deptt. doing this and they negated many claims made by sweep stakes.My
Lockin ID was not there in their screen .My first mail was sent on 11th
itself, and then on 12th.

Today the Rs. 50, 000/ voucher came in a clever package of 10 vouchers of Rs.
5000 /- each. And you would not find any item for that amount on the
website.You have to decently shell out at least double than this to get a
discount. A clever strategy . Since I do not want these vouchers now you may take them back. I
wouldn't mind spending that money but this was a case where information
provided was wrong with a sole intention to fool the customer in purchasing
a product.

Your agency where people cannot even spell my name properly when calling
(inadvertently every time, they struggled with their English and then my
name) does not have competence to hold a fair contest. Do not resort to
cheap gimmicks. This has also taught me a couple of things mentioned below.

a) Hold your Greed.
b) Stay away from dubious contests.
c) Never believe in people who cannot spell your name properly.
d) Do not believe in people who promise you the moon over a phone. Get
things in writing.
e) And lastly, the hard earned money deserves better.

After flagging almost Rs. 50, 000 /- for nothing (all these products I
already own) I am wiser for next time.The pain of losing Rs. 50, 000/- is too
much.I feel like knocking consumer forum and also telling the whole world
about it ( in fact I learn from a colleague who had a similar experience but
he got wiser early)

Good Luck India Today. I may be too harsh with my words, which normally I
am not, but then the whole affair has made my thoughts miserable.

I request ITBC to please cancel all my orders [880127049, 880127399,
880126207, 880126208 ], take back the vouchers and refund back my money. I
have no interest left in your Contest.I must have written around 10 mails to Response/ITBC4U/India today/mailme, but none has taken time to respond. I call the consumer forum only to be told that they are yet to listen to recordings, and money cannot be refunded. Also to add to my case is that I did not contact India today first for any of these products, but infact it was me who got the call from them to buy the product for the contest .Those who are reading it should learn a big lesson out of it. My purchases worth Rs. 50, 000/- is down the drains. Laughingly it has not stopped still and I got a call from one Mr.. Deepak today luring me into buying one more product to win a sureshot anything between 1 lacs to 8 lacs. Pity all my complaints on the malpractices seems to have been ignored.--Beware of them. But highly regret the above order has not been delivered to my address till this date i.e. even after the expiry of 3 calender months. I recd a call from India today book club and she said i won a jwellery box (redeem voucher of Surat Diamonds)amounting to Rs 200000.00 and i have to pay half amount of tax for that amounting to Rs 14500.00 while the persent rate of tax on all lottery/lucky draw is applicable @ 30% then how can they offered me on such low amount , primely it seem a fraud . The below details were sent to customer care today and I want to cancel my order urgently. I booked this yesterday and pls see the details below for further information.

Pls cancel the below order : 880159107 where I was supposed to recieve 1 Lakh rupees worth gift vouchers for the purchase of Samsung Omni Lite mobile for Rs 14998. I was promised by the sales executive that I would recieve 7000 Rs worth domestic air tkts and world history book cds worth 3000 Rs as well. Then another lady called up from the verficaition department on 10th Sep 2010 today, stating that I will not recieve the 1 lakh rupees vouchers unless I pay 299 Rupees more. With all the confusion and wrong details I have decided to cancel my order. Also I checked internet online complaints there are 1000s of them.

Pls do not dispatch this order (Phone+ Free gifts) and I will not accept it. I know there are many people who got cheated due to your company. Just to be safe generally I record all the calls which I recieve and you guys bumped into wrong person.

If you do not cancel my order and try dispatching the product, let me tell you, you will be all over the news. Also the customer care department executive(Balakrishna roa) confirmed that my order can be cancelled on Monday since the order is not punched today. So do not play gimmicks here and just cancel the order and make sure you refund to my credit card XXXX XXXX XXXX 7183.

Just for your info, I have attached the call voice recordings in my mail to (response@indiatodaybookclub.com) and (order@indiatodaybookclub.com) which has the confirmation of free gifts from your company sales executive. I expect you to cancel the order 880159107 by 13th Sep 2010 failing which I would hand over the things (audio tapes) to newspapers and media on television. It can damage your reputation in 1 day and save other people who will not get into this trap. I had to write such a strong mail just looking at the complaints registered online on India Today and want you will take QUICK ACTION.

I had purchased one camcorder and home theatre from India today book club in july 16 2010. but havenot received my products so far and money has been deducted from my credit card on same day.
These bastards are attending to my complaint and no body is there to listen.
I request people not to buy any thing from these bastards. these are cheaters on highest order. They copy bussiness tacts from other countreis and ruin Indian people.

This is to make to all aware that India Today Book Club executives are misguiding callers.
Today I received a call from them, they informed me that I won 1.65 Lakhs out of which I will receive 1.5 Lakhs directly transferred to my A/C and rest Rs.15000/- thru products.
To receive the won amt, I have to pay approx Rs. 1100/-, as processing fee. I agree to it as I still had faith in Brand Name "INDIA TODAY". But I have been actually got robbed.
They have transferred my call to IVR for Payment of Rs.1100/-. When I was done with my payment. I received sms alert from my Credit Card Company stating that my card has been swiped for Rs. 22,494/- from Living Media India Ltd.

I tried calling them on their Customer Care which also a wrong no#.

I have been an ITBC member and bought a few books too. Last year in June (12th) I ordered for a set of books from the offer I got through phone worth Rs. 5943. But what I received was an offer for tours. I sent back immediately and informed them promptly. Then started a series of complaint mails with the same reply from them that they would look into the matter. So many enquiries and replies from so many people like Piyush thapa, Jyoti, Jagriti, Amitkumar, Prachi,Chetan Arya, Neb Sarai, Zishan Ahmed and so on from ITBC but of no use. And after one year they have stopped replying me. So bad their services, phone calls to them will be never attended.

Can anyone help. This is causing great emotional drain and frustration.

And becuase of this I have stopped my subscription of Readers Digest (India Today product) which I have been subscribing for more than 10 years

On 19.10.2010, around 2.30 P.M., I had received phone call from land line phone no. (0120)4716800 by Rajiv Gautam claiming to be from Baggage Deptt, India Today . He told me that my name has been shortlisted for a prize of Rs. 50000-85000 and for that I have to create Bank ID, so that money can be transferred to my account and he insisted to purchase MTB Kit worth Rs. 7498/- through my ICICI credit card. I made the payment vide transaction ID: 110091574 but I got suspicious after that and I had called Mr. Nitin Sawhney, Head of Baggage Deptt.,India Today to check for any fraudulent transaction. He assured me to look into the matter but till now, I have not received any information. I want to cancel this transaction and want the refund of the money as it was done under pressure and giving false promise.
Please look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.

I have accept the offer made by India Today Book Club through post and ordered for a 16-CD pack on dt. 31.05.2010 and paid a cheque of ICICI Bank of Rs. 2,498/- which was credited to the account of India Today Book Club on dt. 24.06.2010. But I could not get the product which was ordered by me till now. I have write many letter and email to them but neither they are responding nor sending my product.
