Cherie Booth, a leading barrister, human rights activist and wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, will deliver a lecture on women's rights among other engagements during their three-day India visit from Tuesday.

Booth, who is accompanying the British prime minister for the India-EU Summit and talks with the Indian leadership, will be delivering the 'C.K. Daphtary Memorial Lecture' here Wednesday on 'Women's Rights are Human Rights.'

The event is being organised by the British Council of India, Inns of Court India Society and the Association of British Scholars.

Booth, who has appeared on the European Court of Justice and became Queen's Counsel in 1995, will also travel to Shimla for a few hours, diplomatic sources said.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to host the Blairs at the Wildflower Hall in Shimla, that was once home to Lord Kitchener of Khartoum and is now run as a resort by the Oberoi group, they added.

The hill station had served as India's summer capital during British rule and New Delhi feels it would be a welcome change to hold talks, instead of the usual venue of Hyderabad House for state receptions.

Called to the Bar at Lincoln's in 1976, Booth is actively involved in several organisations and is president of Barnardo's, Britain's largest children's charities, besides serving as the patron of Breast Cancer centre.
