Amit Jogi, son of former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi, was Saturday remanded in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody till July 8 for his alleged involvement in a murder case.
Metropolitan Magistrate V.K. Khanna passed the order when the CBI, which arrested Jogi Friday, produced him in court Saturday and demanded 14 days custody.
"Without going into the details of the case at this stage, I remand the accused to CBI custody till July 8 as he is required to be interrogated to find his alleged role in the murder of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) leader," the judge said.
The CBI submitted that Amit Jogi was required to be taken to several places to recover the weapon of offence used in the murder of Ramavtar Jaggi in 2003 and to unearth details of monetary transactions connected with the crime.
CBI counsel submitted that Amit Jogi was the mastermind of the conspiracy to kill Jaggi.
Amit Jogi's counsel opposed the 14 days' remand sought by the CBI, saying the agency had nothing to probe further as the weapon of offence had already been recovered from two of the accused, who had been granted bail by the Bilaspur bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Amit Jogi had, in response to summons, appeared at the CBI headquarters Friday for interrogation in the case. He was arrested after he failed to satisfactorily answer questions.
Gunmen shot dead Jaggi in Raipur June 4, 2003.
Amit, who was served two CBI notices, turned up at the agency's headquarters here a day after CBI director U.S. Mishra said stern action would be taken if he continued to avoid questioning.
His name cropped up in the case after accused Suresh and Bultu Pathak, in their confessional statement before a magistrate, had said that Amit Jogi masterminded and financed Jaggi's murder.
Jaggi's son Satish, in a police complaint, had named Ajit Jogi and Amit Jogi as the prime suspects.
The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Chhattisgarh handed over the case to the CBI after it came to power in December 2003.
