An inquiry commission, probing the communal violence triggered in Vadodara in 2002, Friday adjourned further cross-examination of Zahira Sheikh, a controversial witness in the Best Bakery case.
The Nanavati-Shah commission had summoned Zahira for further cross-examination. However, the 20-year-old witness requested for adjournment, as a panel of the Supreme Court was to visit her Vadodara, her hometown, in connection with the case.
Following the request, the matter was adjourned to Saturday.
The Supreme Court Committee headed by its registrar B.M. Gupta, meanwhile, was in Vadodara to record statements in the case related to Zahira's charges against social activist Teesta Setalwad.
Fourteen people were burnt to death when the Best Bakery was set on fire by a mob during the Gujarat riots of 2002.
