Prabhu Shankar Agarwal, the owner of Haldiram's chain of confectioneries arrested for attempt to murder, was Thursday remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Agarwal was produced in the chief metropolitan magistrate's court here. He has been charged with attempting to murder the nephew of a tea stall owner in the city's Posta area about three months ago.
The 45-year-old businessman was arrested at Delhi airport June 7 on arrival from London and remanded in police custody.
Agarwal had gone to London to open a Haldiram's outlet.
"Agarwal confessed to police that he engaged killers to eliminate the owner of a tea stall, Satyanarayan Thakur. The stall owner was the occupant of a house where Agarwal wanted to construct a multi-storeyed building," a police official said.
"He engaged extortionist Gopal Tiwari to kill Satyanarayan. On March 30, Tiwari and his men fired at Satyanarayan's 21-year-old nephew Pramod by mistake. Luckily, the bullet pierced Pramod's right thigh and he survived," the official said.
Tiwari was arrested in Hyderabad May 24.
