A case was filed in a Madhya Pradesh court Thursday against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and his wife, Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, for allegedly dishonouring the national anthem.
The case was filed in a district court here by a social organisation, Tiranga Abhiyan (tri-colour campaign), on the basis of a photograph of the couple published in a daily Jan 5.
The photograph shows Lalu Prasad and his wife seated at a function during the rendering of the national anthem. Other people are seen standing in the same photograph, which is of the Republic Day celebrations in 2003.
The caption of the photograph read: "Persons occupying high posts have no respect for the national anthem".
A complaint in this regard was filed under section three of the Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act, 1971, by Tiranga Abhiyan convenor Ravi Atrolia.
Subsequently, a case was filed in the court of judicial magistrate Narendra Jain. The court set Jan 24 for recording the complainant's statements.
