Dear Aditya Puri,
It is very surprising to note that after seven months I get a letter saying As
response received from insurance company , Since card holder forgot the card at ATM
this is case of Customer Negligence In view of the same has been rejected.
As per my knowledge insurance cover is to provide such instances of card loss and
most of the ATM card are misplaced at ATM centre which are left back in the Machine.
1.Please confirm why debit card are not covered under insurance if they are left by
mistake in ATM.
2.I am only claiming the charges which has been misused by some one in doing
purchases on my card confirm why they are not covered .
3. Please provide me email id where I can launch my complaint to reserve Bank.
4. In spite of repeated reminder I have not received the Copy of CCTV coverage to
hand it over to Police, The information which I got is that the there was some
problem in CCTV camera and pictures are not very clear . Please explain what is my
fault if CCTV has not captured the culprit because of poor maintenance.
5.Please explain what is the safety in having debit card if it is not covered if
misused or lost due to ignorance.
6.When will I get CD of the Video footage which I have not received in spite of
repeated request to concern department
I hope you will take immediate action and provide positive solution.

Dear Aditya Puri,
I have been HDFC bank Cooperate Customer from last Ten years and have had wonderful
experience dealing with the services of HDFC bank , recently on 31st October 2008
by mistake I left my Debit card in ATM Machine at Rishab Vihar which I suppose is
the most common complaint of loss of any card , As usual practice the Guard was not
present on the gate but was sitting in his Room behind the ATM machine which I have
observed couple of times earlier also.
Next day morning when I realized that I have left my card in the ATM Machine I
blocked my card and logged complaint on phone banking but by that time the person
who operated ATM machine after me had misused the card and withdrew Rs 20000 from my
account and did shopping of around Rs 30000 from my Debit card.
As per instruction from Bank FIR of the complaint was registered and Papers were
submitted in HDFC Karkardoma branch to Shilpa.
Prompt action was taken on the complaint and investigation team was sent and every
thing was verified , I was very pleased to see fast action and within a Week I got a
call from the investigating team that they have got the CCTV footage and have
identified the person who had visited ATM after me and wanted me to come along with
him , as I was traveling I could not accompany with the concerned person who called
me, mean while I was also informed that immediately they will transfer the balance
in my account but I can not utilize it till the case is resolved which is a standard
policy in case of card loss or misused by some one else.
After that there was a complete silence I kept on checking on phone banking and the
branch for transfer of Money and every time I got a response it will take some time
. when 35 days passed I went to Karkardooma branch to get the information I was told
that they have got no revert on this case till date and they will send reminder and
let me know.
Next day morning to my surprise I got a call from the Karkardooma branch that
insurance company has rejected my case as card was lost because of my mistake (
Most of the cards are lost because of mistake and that is why insurance cover is
there) till date and I have not received any official communication on my complaint
from Bank which is very surprising.
I have a feeling that it is very risky to Keep any credit or Debit cards where
there is insurance cover but bank is handicap and can do nothing for protecting
there customers , If this is true I would like to cancel all the debit and credit
cards of myself & my organization which is dealing with you from lass ten Years.
I would request you to look into matter seriously and as a right for information
want following details as I find some thing is fishy in entire investigation.
1.CCTV footage of the Customer who used ATM after my transaction 7.24 pm to 7.34 pm
on 31st October.
2.Full details of investigation
3.why have been no official communication sent to me on this case
4.Identification of the person who was identified.
5.Why money was not transferred in my account as per bank policy.
6.Verification of Signature of all transaction slips where my card was misused
Please find enclosed all the details of complaint
Actually I am very disappointed with this episode as I have never expected and
experienced such an casual attitude from HDFC bank, I would request you to revert
back urgently if I don't receive any response within weeks time , I will be forced
to take this matter to Finance Ministry and Press.
