Hi
While travelling to Jakarata (Indonesia) in Singapore Airlines 25 days back, we have lost the Check in baggage. We had mailed the singapore Airlines and they have declared lost baggage and sent us a claim form. we have entered all the items in the baggage and the price and have sent them to singapore airlines. Now they are telling that only 20$ per killo will be refunded and max 5 kg per baggage in fact the baggage weighted 18.5 kgs. The worth of the items was around 80 thousand rupees and these airline people are telling we can only claim USD 100 which would be Approx 4500 rs.
Can you please advise is this a limit that 20$ per killo and max of 5kg only we can claim.
Thanks in advance
Srinivas

Hi,
Sorry the earlier mail was incomplete so i am writing it again.
No we have not insured for the baggage or declared the items while travelling with the airlines. Infact we did not know that the baggage items can be declared with the airlines while travelling. we have mentioned the items in the Claim form provided by the airlines along with its original Price. Most of the items were sarees and daily clothings of my mom and infant daily usage things and dresses. Most of the sarees were costly Silk sarees. Infact of the lost baggage it was tough to buy all these things again in indonesia, especially sarees not available in Indonesia and a typical Indian woman will not wear any other dress than sarees, so we had bear this inconvinience caused by this airline.
The Airline is just compensating with 4500 rs where we cannot buy more than one silk saree. we even did not claim for the Bag which had all the items and which costed us 3500 rs new one purchased for this travelling. All the items were used and we will have to search for the bills once we are back to India.
We also had to cut down some of the planned expenses and visit only few places as we had spent money on buying the daily needs which were in the baggage.

Srinivas
I traveled from Perth to Lahore, Pakistan and got my luggage checked in for Lahore. I had a laptop in one of the suitcase, I had put it in there because the laptop screen was broken and I was only carrying it for the sake of the hard disk. When I arrived here in Lahore, I opened the lock and the lap top was missing. I am clueless that at what point it might have been taken out. The lock and the zip were intact and did not show any signs of tampering. Could it have been taken out when it was loaded onto the plane in Perth? Or was it taken out when it was loaded off from the plane in Lahore? What bothers me is that everything was just the way it should have been only the laptop is taken out so neatly that I felt it never was there.
How is that possible?
What should I do now?
Same thing happen on me. I am still don't get any update from the airlines. I hope you at least can get back reasonable compensation.
We travelled from Brussels through Frankfurt and Singapore to Surabaya on 13 November 2011 (Flight nr SQ 2037, SQ 25 and SQ 5222)
In Surabaya we found that the lock of one of the baggages was broken and that the laptop inside was stolen. We immediately reported this in Surabaya but did not receive any reply. On our return in Amsterdam on November 29 we again reported this and are now waiting for a reply.
We wonder whether further steps can be undertaken
