Four Indian hill stations will get new or upgraded airports by the end of the 10th five-year plan in 2007, parliament was informed Tuesday.

"(Airport) development works have been planned and taken up for areas like Kangra, Leh Pakyong and Chiethu," Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

While the existing airport at Kangra in Himachal Pradesh would be upgraded for the operation of 50-seat aircraft, Leh in Jammu and Kashmir would get a new civil apron - an area where aircraft are parked.

New airports will be built at Pakyong in Sikkim and Chiethu in Nagaland.

Patel said his ministry had requested the Uttaranchal government to provide additional land to upgrade the runway of the Pantnagar airstrip, which has had no regular flights despite being suitable for operation of 20-seat aircraft.
