Hi,
I had booked a return ticket on Air Deccan's Mumbai-Coimbatore sector
evening flights (DN-729 and DN-728) a few months back. The travel
dates are in the last week of April 2007. However, in their Summer
Schedule, they have cancelled the flight (on which my ticket was
booked). They are now operating a single flight on that sector. As per
their terms and conditions, I am eligible for a "FREE RE-SCHEDULE" on
the operational flight on any day based on my convenience.
I called up Air Deccan a few days back to re-schedule my ticket.
However, after trying to re-schedule, the call centre executive said
that there was some problem in their systems (Air Deccan's booking
system was modified recently) and asked me to call back after a few
days. I called up 2-3 times after that as well, but everytime there
was some problem in their systems and they were unable to reschedule
the ticket.
Today, when I called them up for the same purpose, the executive
informed me that:
1. the old ticket no longer exists
2. a "HOLD" has been placed automatically by their system on the dates
on which I wish to travel {donno what kind of a crappy system is this}
3. for the re-schedule, I would have to pay a difference of about Rs.
2000/-
4. This money will be returned to my card in due course of time
I then spoke to the supervisor of that executive.
I asked the supervisor to get the re-schedule done through the
back-end. He said that it was not possible (I have worked on such
systems in the past, and know that it is possible). Then I asked him
to send me an e-mail stating that it was due to a fault in their
systems that I am being made to pay the difference amount, and that
the amount would be returned and to mention the time in which it would
be returned. The supervisor declined to send such an e-mail.
The problem now is that:
1. Why should I pay for some fault in Air Deccan's reservation
systems? If they have upgraded to faulty systems, then shouldn't they
be liable for any problems that may occur due to this decision? They
did not take my permission before changing their reservation systems.
Then why should I suffer for it?
2. Even if I pay the difference, I know the amount of mental stress
and harassment one has to go through to get a manual refund from Air
Deccan (have done it twice in the past). Without any written proof, it
would become even more difficult to prove that I am actually eligible
for a refund.
3. I am asking for whatever terms and conditions I agreed to while
booking the ticket. Is Air Deccan not legally bound to honour the
terms and conditions? Can a notice be served to Air Deccan to honour
it's terms and conditions?
Please do share our views on this.
Regards
Kunal.
